Actual Claude billing in South Korea: 10% VAT is added to the USD price

Claude's pricing page only lists USD prices. We checked receipts and billing screens from the operator's Max 20x subscription to see how much is actually charged when paying on the web (claude.ai) in South Korea.

Run on 2026-10-04

At a Glance

  • Web purchases are billed at the listed price plus 10% South Korean VAT. Operator's receipt: Max plan - 20x $200.00 + VAT - South Korea (10%) $20.00 = total $220.00.
  • The invoice list on the billing page showed US$220 marked 'Paid' on the 15th of each month from June through September 2026 (we checked the original receipt email for September).
  • To cancel, go to Settings → Billing and select 'Cancel' near the bottom. The next automatic renewal date appears at the top of the same screen.
  • If you purchased through the iPhone app, you must cancel in Apple's subscription settings rather than on the Claude website (Anthropic's official help).

Web vs iPhone billing in South Korea: which is cheaper? Calculated using actual receipts

What we verified directly

  • Billing screen (Korean interface, 2026-10-04): name at the bottom left → Settings → Billing. At the top are the current plan ('Max plan · 20x more usage than Pro'), the message 'Your subscription will automatically renew on the following date', and an 'Adjust plan' button.
  • The same screen shows the payment method and states that 'Extra usage and automatic top-up charges' are also billed to the default payment method. This means enabling extra usage may result in charges beyond the subscription fee.
  • The invoice list near the bottom lets you download a PDF for each month. A subscription 'Cancel' button appears at the very bottom.
  • Receipt email (2026-09-15): 'Max plan - 20x Qty 1 $200.00, Subtotal $200.00, VAT - South Korea (10%) $20.00, Total $220.00'.

What we did not verify

  • We did not actually cancel or request a refund. Information about the remaining subscription period after cancellation is based only on official help.
  • We could not verify the amount charged to the card in KRW, including the exchange rate and foreign transaction fees.
  • We did not purchase other plans, such as Pro or Max 5x, to verify whether the same 10% applies. We expect the same rule to apply, but show these amounts only as calculations.
  • We did not inspect billing screens in the iPhone or Android apps.
