What It Does
A feature that brings the same agent architecture as Claude Code to general work without a terminal. Describe the desired deliverable and step away; Claude plans and handles multiple steps, then returns finished documents, spreadsheets, or presentations. Since September 16, 2026, it has been merging with 'chat' into a unified Claude for Pro·Max, and new Pro·Max tasks will run in the cloud from October 6, 2026.

Is It Free to Use?
Unavailable for free. Cowork is exclusive to paid plans (Pro·Max·Team·Enterprise). The September 16 announcement said the 'new Claude combining chat and work' would come to Free·Team 'soon', but the scope of task features on the free plan has not yet been confirmed.
Supported Regions
The official supported countries page lists South Korea, Japan, and all 27 EU member states (including Germany·France·Spain·Italy) as countries where Claude.ai is available. However, this page applies to Claude.ai overall; no product-specific country restrictions were confirmed on official pages. The Pro plan is available only in 'supported regions'. Cowork in the Chrome side panel is available first to Max·Team, with Pro rolling out gradually.

- Whether 'Cowork' will remain a separate name is uncertain (official guidance: 'Claude Cowork is now just Claude', rolling out starting with Pro·Max)
